Directing Your Levy: Choose Where Your 5% Goes

A step-by-step guide to setting a levy preference so your 5% Respect Levy goes directly to a specific mission-driven organisation instead of the general Respect Fund pool.

The Respect Levy

Every time you trigger an LTU burn event (for example, by citing an IP asset in a contract), a royalty is generated. 5% of that royalty is automatically sent to the Respect Fund — the platform's commons pool, governed by community Impact Proposals.

What is a levy preference?

A levy preference lets you send your personal 5% levy directly to a specific mission-driven organisation instead of the general pool.

If you set no preference, your levy goes to the general pool as normal. If you set a preference, future levy events you trigger will send that 5% straight to your chosen organisation. You can change or clear your preference at any time — changes apply to future events only.

How to set your preference

  1. Go to Settings → Levy Preference (/settings/levy).
  2. Use the search box to find an organisation by name. Only organisations with an active Funding Seeker listing appear here.
  3. Click the organisation to select it (it highlights with a tick).
  4. Click Save Preference.

Your current preference is shown at the top of the page with a funding progress bar so you can see how the organisation is progressing.

How to clear your preference

In Settings → Levy Preference, click Clear next to your current preference, then Save Preference. Your future levy returns to the general Respect Fund pool.

Who receives the levy?

The full 5% goes to the organisation's funding balance. It is recorded as a levy_receipt event in their royalty history. The platform takes no cut of directed levy.

Key rules

  • You can have only one active levy preference at a time.
  • Preferences only affect events you personally trigger.
  • The organisation must have a mission-driven governance model and an active Funding Seeker listing.
